Effective Communications Course Outline

Objective: A skill-building program that shows how to determine Communication Styles (both your own and those of others) and teaches how to use this knowledge to foster enhanced communications.This workshop is certified for Continuing Education credit by PMI (Project Management Institute), and by the Florida Board of Professional Regulation for Engineers and CPA’s.

Most useful for: Executives, Managers, Team Members and all key functional areas within an organization.

Duration: One Day

Content: One Workshop using Personal Surveys, Videos and Participant cases.

We cover:

"What is Your Sign?" We discuss the nature of Communications and the four major styles -Intuitor, Thinker, Feeler, Senser. Attendees are given a survey to determine their Primary and Back up styles of Communications. We discuss the four major communication styles and the behavioral characteristics with each. We instruct on how to identify and adapt their style to effectively communicate with the other communication styles.

"What Color is your Parachute?" This section allows attendees to understand what their Primary, Backup or Stress Styles are and when each is used. How Styles shift under Stress and why it is important to recognize it and what to do.

"It's Just the Way I am!" This discusses our reliance on our own style and, by means of case studies/videos, why we can over-stress a given style.

"NO WAY!" This is a review of opposing styles of communications - why they exist and how to effectively communicate and how oppositional styles complement each other.

Interpersonal Behavioral. This is a discussion of how to recognize and communicate effectively deal with the aspects of Introversion and Extroversion as they relate to the four main communication styles.

"Applied Communications". This section provides instruction on how to use communication style recognition in Personnel, Manager/Subordinate, Presentations and Manager-Coaching/Counseling situations as well as organizational and team building.

"Electronic Communications and YOU! This section deals with Email - Voice Mail - Phones - Speaker Phones and Conference Calls - How to understand your style and effectively communicate in today's E-environment. We also discuss Do's, Don'ts and Gotcha's as well as Communication styles. The email section also includes - How to get your message across to effectively meet the reader's communication needs. Finally, we discuss the use of Phones: Difficult callers-voice mail- communication style application.

Effective Communications Mentoring

Objective of the Module: A Follow Up program that Allows the attendees to discuss the issues they are dealing with in adapting their communication styles to meet the communication needs of others

Most useful for Executives, Managers, Team Members and all Key Functional areas within an organization that have attended the Effective Communications workshop.

Duration: 60 days including email, phone support and a one half day refresher/ With discussion of style application issues

Contents: 60 Day remote support via phone and email. We Cover: issues that students have concerning adaptation techniques via phone and email support on an as needed basis.

Half Day Session

We review the four major communication styles and the behavioral characteristics with each and how to determine their Primary and Back up styles of Communications. We have an open discussion with the class as to the issues they are dealing with and discuss how they might approach those communications issues.
